Spring is just around the corner and here at MacGregor Recruitment we’ve had a very busy start to the year. We’re pleased to have successfully placed a number of great candidates with new businesses who are perfectly aligned, making it a great year so far for fenestration recruitment.
Working closely with our clients, we know that businesses in the fast-paced fenestration sector want a tailored approach when recruiting appropriate talent. They often want quality candidates with fenestration sector experience – to hire someone who understands the market, the products, customers and systems. They want someone who can hit the ground running to make an instant impact on their business. We totally get that!
Choosing a recruiter who is focused on hitting the brief and will deliver a very targeted search and selection process is key. We do this through combining our established network and a targeted search and approach campaign. We’ve found that mapping out the commutable area, identifying prospective candidates and proactively approaching them works really well.”
As an agency we consciously avoid trying to fit a square peg into a round hole and not to bombard our clients with CVs that barely match the brief and to have a ‘quality rather than quantity’ approach to candidate submissions.
But the stars do need to align for the perfect match to happen!
As we approach potential candidates and brief them on the opportunity they will be considering:
- Is the role in the right locality and commutable for me?
- Is the role a sideways move to do the same, or will it help me take the next step on my career path?
- Is the salary and benefits package attractive enough to make the move?
- Does the company and line manager have a good reputation that I would be proud to work for?
- Would there be an emotional drag to leaving my boss and colleagues to join a competitor?
- What are the reasons behind me being receptive to new opportunities?
- Am I really ready to take the plunge and leave should I get an offer?
- Does the company align with my values and personal needs?
And from there, the hiring company of course needs to assess and determine if the person will bring the right skills and attitude as well as fit in with the team dynamics and business culture.
It can, in all honesty, sometimes be a real challenge in the current labour market to get high performers to move! For every candidate we submit to our clients there will often be a high number of potential candidates we have identified and approached as part of the search process who have considered the above but who have determined that the timing or the role isn’t right for them, and have decided not to progress an application.
We of course aim to put forward a selection of highly suitable candidates that perfectly meet the brief but on occasion it may be that, following a detailed search of the market, an open and honest conversation is required to revisit the brief, give feedback from the search and discuss whether to adjust the expectation criteria and in which areas.
Hiring the wrong person can be costly and demands valuable time and resource, so it’s important to get the right match. Finding the right candidate is not just about filling a vacant position, it's about securing the future of the company and achieving business goals as well as nurturing a thriving workplace and driving sustainable success for both parties.
